
ABOUT XIN CHEN
Xin Chen, as a trombonist, has recently collaborated with conductors such as Timothy Redmond, Philip Mackenzie, Michael Seal, and Marc Dooley, as well as violinist Mengla Huang, among other musicians.
As a soloist in both classical and jazz trombone, Xin has given solo recitals in China and performed at the Birmingham Lunar New Year Concert in 2023, where he was the soloist for the UK premiere of Gadameilin Thematic Fantasia. His performances have taken him to various venues across China, the UK, including Trinity College Cambridge and Symphony Hall in Birmingham, and the USA , the Eastman Theater.
As an ensemble player, Xin performed with the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Eastman Philharmonic Orchestra, West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, University of London Symphony Orchestra, The Amadeus Orchestra, and Fulham Symphony Orchestra, while pursuing his studies in the UK and the USA.
Xin held the position as a trombonist with the Shanghai Huju Opera House Orchestra from 2019 to 2021. During this time, he also performed as a guest trombonist with professional orchestras in China, including the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, and Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra etc.

As a music educator, Xin has extensive experience in bilingual teaching, proficient in both Chinese and English. He has taught as an external conductor for wind and jazz bands at several schools in Shanghai and frequently serves as a teacher for trombone and low brass class.
As a educator dedicated to promoting cultural exchange, Xin has studied and exchanged ideas with musicians at various universities across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and different regions of China. Xin is currently studying at the Eastman School of Music. He finished Master's degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and a Bachelor's degree from the Shanghai University School of Music. He has studied under renowned educators such as Mark Kellogg and Larry Zalkind at Eastman, and Richard Watkin, Anthony Howe, Edward Jones, and Amos Miller in the UK. Participation in master classes with maestros like Michael Buchanan, Weston Sprott, Joseph Alessi, Jesper Busk, and Denson Paul Pollard has further honed Xin's skills on alto, tenor, and bass trombones.
Music is not only Xin's profession but also his passion. As a vocal percussionist in a cappella, Xin co-authored the "A Cappella Tutorial" with Professor Ren Yin of Shanghai University, which has been published in 2024. He plays various instruments, including drum kits, and is an avid sports enthusiast. Xin Chen and his family in China care for three cats.
